ORIGINS OF OUR NAME

Names do not get more unique than ‘Ares Steel’.

The ‘Ares’ part dates back to our founder’s love for Greek mythology.

Learning about how the Ancient Greeks worshipped various gods and how they interacted with each other, captivated him.

Ares, in particular, was a god with many flaws but never shied from the most difficult tasks & issues that attacked Olympus.

This struck a cord with Daniel, regardless of how troublesome that life may become, one can choose to have a positive outlook on life.

Smiling adversity right in the face!

The ‘Steel’ part is about you.

You do not realise what you can do and what you can accomplish.

But instead, you restrict yourself

You cut yourself short when you are ready.

You are ready for that job interview.

You are ready for that relationship.

You are ready for that next step.

Timi Sanusi

So what does it mean to be Timi Sanusi?
This is a question that consistently lingers in the depths of my mind.
My middle name, Sheriff, may suggest nobility due to its Arabic connotations but in my life I can think of a number of times where I’ve been far from noble.
I guess what’s central to my character is acknowledging where I’m at presently and where I’d like to be in the future and with this regard I can seek to better myself.
I am a thinker and I am a reflector and I believe there is no better area for me to practice such traits than in the medical environment.
I want to impact people’s lives through improving their health as a physician.
Seeing as I’m devoting a career to improving an individual’s condition, it is, therefore necessary to keep my own health and fitness in tiptop shape.
This is why I love team sports like rugby and football; in addition to this, I always find time to train hard in the gym!
They give me the opportunity to challenge myself and test the limits of my abilities – ‘no pain, no gain!’.
I am far from perfect and my journey in life is far from complete but my hunger to actualise my potential keeps me motivated, diligent and high-minded.

Anthony Aire-Egbase

Hey, I am a 20-year-old guy who was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.
I am currently studying Law at Warwick University… but enough of the formalities.
So what makes me different from the pack?
My desire to improve and become excellent at everything I do.
Whether it is trying to max out on the deadlift immediately followed by a max out effort on the bench or a law assignment, I will be giving my best every damn time.
No doubt when I am ready to finally become a lawyer I will have years of pushing myself in and out of the gym to draw on, I’ll be more than ready to take that step!

Dan James (Our Founder)

So what’s the story behind Ares Steel?!
How did we even get here?
From the get-go, I have always loved fitness, LOVED IT.
I spent so much time, (too much time) in my childhood learning all the training techniques, learning how to become more healthy and basically ventured on a quest to make my whole body a machine.
However, as I got older I started to understand that martial arts
I was awful, by far the worst in the class.
Well, to be completely honest I had a big mouth and my parents thought I needed some discipline and therefore thought it would be a good idea for me to learn some self-defence.
Nevertheless, whilst nurturing this obsession I fell into martial arts. was far more than just screaming at the top of your lungs and was actually all about values, core values.
The more I understood the philosophy of martial arts the better I became and this quickly translated into other parts of my life.
It was powerful.
Virtually every area of my life took an upswing and I began to think, what if I began to consciously harness these same values.
Of course, there were bumps on the road which is inevitable for a growing naive idiot like myself, but martial arts would always help to steer me back on the right track.
Which leads me to Ares Steel.
I want to bring the EXACT same values that I learned from all the years of fitness and martial arts to you.
I want you to know that you are going to mess up.
You will make silly mistakes, you will zig when you should have zagged.
It is going to happen…
BUT
no matter what crap that life decides to throw at you.
You are going to be okay.

Eddie Hutton

Hey, my name is Eddie Hutton.
I am currently 20 years old studying biochemistry at Exeter university.
I also love athletics and rugby union. I came from hard-working parents that taught me you need create as many opportunities for yourself as possible.
My goals change and adapt depending on the opportunities I create for myself and I must be ready for them when they arise.
We all do.
Therefore, I firmly believe you should always be prepared and be moving towards be the best version of yourself and that starts with your health. Everyone can work towards their ideal version of themselves and there’s no better place to start than with frequent exercise.
It takes dedication, patients and hard-work to get the results you desire and once you apply these things to all aspects of your life you will create opportunities for yourself and capitilize on them.

Ben Dyson

Hey, I am a young guy who was born and raised in London.
I too am Warwick University and am currently studying maths.
Maths is a strenuous course, so it is important for me to have a release.
My answer to this issue?
Rock climbing.
I just love it.
The rush and adrenaline of scaling a wall is addictive.
I would love to go to Eptigen, Switzerland after graduating and take on some of the hardest climbs that the world has to offer.
I just need to get this degree first!
